Are you Male or Female?

There are two ways to produce a marijuana plant. One is from a clone and the other is from a seed. If you are growing your marijuana from a seed it will produce either a male or female plant.

To determined the sex of your plants expose them to 12 hours of uninterrupted darkness for approximately a 2 week period. If the sex parts are difficult to see, use a jewelry loop with at least 30x magnification.

  • Males usually show their sex first and can be identified by production of small pollen sacks.

Marijuana is greatly affected by photo periods or light cycles. Because hydroponic marijuana growers, use indoor methods to grow cannabis this will put you 100% in control of the photo periods your plants experience.

  • Vegetative photo periods are 18/6. This translates to 18 hours of light and 6 hours of uninterrupted darkness. It is very important that you do not disturb the dark period. If you want to look at your plants wait until the photo period. Some growers use a 24 hour photo period, instead of the 18/6.
  • Flowering photo periods are 12/12. This means 12 hours of light followed by 12 hours of darkness. During this stage you will also need to change your nutrients as well as lights.
